Ahead of their 20th anniversary, Kevin Jonas reflects on the Jonas Brothers’ breakup
Kevin Jonas is looking back on what led to the Jonas Brothers’ breakup in 2013.
The Brothers’ Dynamic Has Changed
While speaking to PEOPLE about his recent partnership with Lowe’s for the holiday season, Kevin said that in the years since their breakup — and subsequent reconciliation in 2019 — a lot has changed in their dynamic as a band.
Solo Projects
Both Joe and Nick have released music on their own outside of the band in the past. Earlier this year, Joe announced he’d be releasing a new album Music for People Who Believe in Love, and while the full project’s release date is TBD, he’s dropped two singles: “Work It Out” and “What’s It Gonna Be.” On Dec. 7, Nick teased “some new vibes” in a brief video on Instagram.
No Rules
“The thing about us, which I think is really fun, is there’s no rules,” Kevin says about his brothers’ solo projects. “I don’t know, I don’t want to speak for Nick, but there’s definitely no rules in what we can do. Anyone and everything can do music and then we can do it together and we can do it separate.”
“I think that’s what’s so dynamic and cool about us,” he continues. “And there’s not like ego involved. I think there used to be, and I think that’s what broke up the band. But now we’ve come back, and it’s just like, whatever works for everyone.”
Future Plans
Kevin, who has co-hosted Claim to Fame with the youngest Jonas brother, Franklin, for the competition show’s first three seasons, says he’ll “hopefully” be back for another season. Though, when it comes to his own solo music: “It just has to be the right thing. I’ve always talked about it, and talked about doing something, but it just hasn’t been the right time for me yet.”
New Music
As a band, the trio is gearing up to celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2025. And while Kevin says there’s “not much” he can say just yet, one thing is for sure: new music.
Conclusion
The Jonas Brothers have come a long way since their breakup in 2013. With their solo projects and renewed focus on the band, it’s exciting to see what the future holds for them. With new music on the horizon, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s to come.
