Ryan Reynolds said, “Let this man cook!” in one of the recent Deadpool & Wolverine teasers and he did cook! In fact, he cooked, ate, and left no crumbs. Now, leaving behind these Gen Z slangs (which Wade Wilson couldn’t), Deadpool & Wolverine is easily one of the best CBM projects of this decade so far and probably the most memorable movie of the year 2024. Is it the best movie of 2024? Yeah, probably not.
The Plot
Wade Wilson’s dreams might finally come true as he gets called by the TVA. The news of joining the MCU is something he had only imagined (and tried (and failed)). Soon after labelling himself as Marvel Jesus he finds the plot twist that will end everything and everyone he has ever loved. To protect his timeline he needs to get Wolverine, and with that Deadpool’s quest begins. Now, we know it’s not that simple, and it raises many questions. Why is his timeline being destroyed? How can Wolverine fix it? How is Cassandra Nova involved? Well, those questions will be answered when you watch the movie.
What’s Special About It?
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year and that’s a fact. This Marvel movie was not like any other Marvel movie — it was the conclusion of Fox’s Marvel movies and the beginning of the new MCU. Since the movie was announced, it was clear that it was set to be one of the biggest MCU movies as Reynolds and Jackman were going to reprise their Marvel roles after they were thought to have been put to a permanent end.
Fans all across the globe were desperately waiting for the movie and its updates (yes, I know that includes you too). Fast forward to now, and the wait is over!
What’s Good About Deadpool & Wolverine?
Ryan Reynolds returning as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. That’s the BEST about it but what are the positives in the movie? Keep reading, bub.
The movie starts on a high note and captures your attention immediately — c’mon it’s a Deadpool movie. Shawn Levy did a tremendous job with the direction. The camera work played a vital role in enhancing the action scenes. Deadpool’s sword and fight scenes were beautifully choreographed and seemed natural. Talking about choreography, Deadpool’s famous NSYNC Bye Bye Bye dance is making rounds on the internet for all the good reasons. It is one of the several highlights of the movie but the dance still takes the cake.
You won’t stop laughing or hooting. Every minute of the movie offers something and you won’t even feel exhausted. Deadpool & Wolverine has lots of jokes…the keyword is LOTS. There is barely any moment in the movie where you won’t see anything funny happening on the screen. There are emotional scenes as well but the comedy outweighs it. The song selection for Deadpool & Wolverine is GLAMOROUS. Emma Corrin beautifully played the role of Cassandra Nova, her dialogue delivery was one of the better parts of the movie.
What’s Not So Good About It?
Unfortunately, yes. Despite having emotional and serious scenes, the movie lacks emotional depth. It has even tarnished the Logan ending. It is focused too much on comedy and jokes that emotions can hardly get a room in it. Speaking of jokes, they were thrown at the audience (not literally) at such speed and in short intervals that it was hard to catch all of them. Some jokes didn’t land properly, some got missed, and some were trying too hard to fit in with the Gen Z terms.
Deadpool & Wolverine had a hard time sticking to the story. It felt really random at times. They started with a story, forgot about it in the middle, and remembered it at the end of the movie. The conclusion of the movie feels odd. It has a thin plot with hardly any actual story which gets covered with all jokes and cameos so people barely notice it. It is safe to call Deadpool & Wolverine a fan-service movie as it aimed to only include cameos and address the 10-20 year old Marvel movies. The weak plot was the major issue in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Conclusion
100% yes. Despite its thin plot, Deadpool & Wolverine is easily one of the best movies of the year. You will not regret watching this movie. In fact, you’ll have a great time! So, if you’re confused about whether to watch it or not, I’ll suggest you to not think of it again and just see it in theaters for the best experience.
FAQs
Do I have to watch all the Marvel projects? If you’ve seen all the Marvel projects then perfect but if you haven’t then too it’s fine as long as you have knowledge about some Marvel movies, especially X-Men. If you plan to see the movie as a blank slate then please watch: Logan, Deadpool, Deadpool 2, Loki Season 1, and Loki Season 2. These 5 are the basic Marvel projects you need to see to understand Deadpool & Wolverine.
What about Dogpool? Dogpool being treated as one of the main leads during promotions sets an expectation that she might have a bigger role, but you end up disappointed. She had almost no role and had roughly 7-10 minutes of screen time.
